MinID (ID-porten)

MinID is the government-issued electronic ID operated by Digdir and used to log in to public services through the ID-porten gateway. It provides a lower-to-substantial assurance login using a PIN code letter and one-time codes. It lets residents access tax, health and municipal services online.

How to register, log in, and renew MinID

Order MinID (first-time setup)

  1. Go to the MinID self-service page at minid.no and choose to order MinID.
  2. Identify yourself with your Norwegian national identity number (fodselsnummer).
  3. Wait for the PIN code letter sent by post to your registered address, or activate PIN codes on the app if eligible.
  4. Set a password and, when prompted, register a mobile number for SMS one-time codes.

Log in with MinID

  1. On a public service, choose ID-porten as the login method and select MinID.
  2. Enter your national identity number and password.
  3. Enter the one-time code sent by SMS, or from your PIN code letter, to complete login.

Recover a lost MinID password or PIN

  1. Open the MinID self-service page and choose the forgotten-password option.
  2. Verify your identity with your national identity number and registered mobile number.
  3. If you have lost your PIN codes, order a new PIN code letter, which arrives by post.
