Overview

Signicat, founded in 2007 and backed by Nordic Capital, is a European digital identity hub connecting businesses to national eID schemes, verification, and electronic signing across the Nordics and broader EU. It aggregates many national identity methods behind one integration. See all identity verification vendors for alternatives.

What it is good at

Breadth of eID coverage is the strength: a single connection to dozens of national identity schemes, plus verification and qualified electronic signing, with strong regulated-market fit. For banking and regulated onboarding across Europe, this hub model removes the burden of integrating each country scheme separately. The hub also handles qualified electronic signatures and consent, so onboarding, verification, and signing happen in one regulated flow, which is valuable for banking and insurance contracts in the EU.

Where it falls short

Value is concentrated in Europe, with limited relevance for global, non-EU use cases. A buyer needing a single-document global check, or operating mainly outside Europe, will find purpose-built global IDV vendors a better fit. Pricing is quote-based. The platform assumes a European context throughout, so buyers whose users sit outside the eID ecosystem gain little from its core differentiator.

Pricing

Quote-based, structured around schemes and transaction volume. Model your real volume with the TCO calculator. Costs vary by which national eID schemes and signing features you enable, so scope your country list before comparing.

Best for, and who should look elsewhere

Choose Signicat when you are a European business that wants one hub to many national eID schemes plus signing. For global document coverage consider Onfido; for EU KYC plus monitoring consider Ondato; for an all-in-one global platform consider Sumsub.

Bottom line

A strong European identity hub for eID-based onboarding and electronic signing.
