Overview
Stripe Identity provides document and selfie verification embedded in the Stripe platform, bringing the developer experience and pricing transparency Stripe is known for to identity checks. It is a natural fit for the large base of businesses already using Stripe for payments. See all identity verification vendors for alternatives.
What it is good at
Ease of integration is the strength: clean APIs, prebuilt UI, and the same tooling Stripe customers already use, with transparent published pricing that is rare in this category. For a team that wants to add verification quickly without a procurement cycle, it is hard to beat on time-to-value. It plugs directly into existing Stripe accounts and dashboards, so finance and operations teams see verification alongside payments without a new system to learn or administer.
Where it falls short
Stripe Identity covers core document and selfie verification rather than deep KYC, AML, and global edge cases, so complex compliance programs will outgrow it. It is not an orchestration platform, and coverage is narrower than dedicated global IDV specialists. It also assumes you are in the Stripe ecosystem. It is deliberately scoped to verification rather than full compliance, so there is no built-in AML screening, watchlist monitoring, or KYB, and orchestration across multiple checks is limited.
Pricing
Per-verification with transparent published pricing. Model your real volume with the TCO calculator.
Best for, and who should look elsewhere
Choose Stripe Identity when you are a Stripe-based business that wants embedded, developer-friendly verification with clear pricing. For deep KYC and AML consider Sumsub; for broad global document coverage consider Onfido or Veriff.
Bottom line
A clean, developer-friendly, transparently priced verification choice for Stripe-based businesses.
