Overview
SAP Customer Data Cloud, built on the Gigya technology SAP acquired in 2017, provides customer identity, consent, and profile management integrated with SAP's customer experience suite. It is an enterprise CIAM incumbent aimed at large B2C brands that want registration, social login, and consent governance tied to SAP's data and CRM stack. Its strongest case is for organizations already standardized on SAP.
What it is good at
Consent and profile data management are the differentiators. The platform handles preference and consent capture at the granularity that large regulated B2C brands need, with centralized customer profiles that feed SAP's marketing, commerce, and CRM tooling. Governance and audit are stronger than most developer-first tools, reflecting the enterprise compliance focus, and it scales to large consumer user bases. For SAP-aligned enterprises, the data integration is the payoff.
Where it falls short
It is enterprise-heavy and most valuable inside the SAP ecosystem, with limited appeal to developer-first or B2B SaaS teams. Developer experience and modern flow design lag behind specialists, deployment is SaaS-only, and the implementation is a project rather than a quick integration. Buyers not invested in SAP gain little of the integration value that justifies the platform.
Pricing
Enterprise subscription, quote-based, typically part of a larger SAP relationship. There is no public self-serve tier. Compare against alternatives with the TCO calculator.
Best for, and who should look elsewhere
Choose it if you are a large B2C enterprise that wants customer identity tied to consent and SAP CRM data. Look elsewhere if you want a lightweight developer auth tool or are not an SAP customer. Consider Auth0 for a general-purpose CIAM, Salesforce Identity for another suite-bound option, and Transmit Security for CIAM plus fraud.
Bottom line
A strong customer identity and consent platform for SAP-aligned B2C enterprises, and overkill for teams outside that ecosystem.
